Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn is a game that belongs to the small genre sometimes called “turn-based strategy”; and it is one of the best. It is a strategy game, in turns, but argument’s importance of game is great and you only control a small team of characters who are improving their skills, and you must execute a mix between strategy and role. The battleground is divided into boxes and movements appear as if we were moving pieces on a board game.
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn has 50 hours of gameplay, 72 playable characters and 180 missions. It uses none of the new capabilities of the Wii, as motion sensors or the pointer, but in my opinion, I think they have done well not to use them because in a game of this type, it would not make much sense to include actions with movements.
The cursor moves from field boxes and menus are more comfortable to manipulate with the cross button then if we used the remote as a pointer and had to be constantly pointing and holding very firm to not make a mistake selecting a position in the battleground.
The quality is present in many aspects of the game, besides having many settings many of which will make this game more accessible for some people.
With regard to mobility, one of the most important features is that it can be controlled using the Wiimote horizontally with two hands or stand upright with one hand, or if you prefer we can use the new Wii Classic or GameCube’s gamepad. We have tons of options to use on the Wii control!
Because it is a turn-based game and in this game, the time you spend to make your actions do not matter, we can take the time that we need to move through menus and boxes of ground to direct our characters.
The gamepad vibration can be enabled or disabled as desired and we can reverse the axes Y and X control separately. The role “auto cursor” automatically puts your cursor at the first of our characters, but can be changed to other characters by pressing a button, that helps to move least squares on the field to select one of our characters.
For people with vision problems, there are options for the game can’t be played by people who are blind. We can configure which information screens want to appear on the battleground and in some, the amount of information displayed.
We can also change the thickness of the lines delimiting the squares on the playing field, since making them disappear entirely to make them fat lines highly visible.
Another visual option is that our characters are marked with a circle on their feet and we can make some environmental objects completely transparent to aid with seeing your character more clearly. Furthermore, the screen position adjustment can change the brightness level of the game.
One problem is that you have to read lots of text, although the font is clear.
The colorblind will have no problem since no element of the game is based only on the colors.
For the deaf, this title can be played without the need to hear anything, since visual cues are sufficient, and all conversations are displayed in text on the screen. Even the videos that are between chapters are subtitled.
The sound can be set to Mono, Stereo or Surround and volumes are separately, we can set a different level of music, main sound effects, ambient sound effects and voices.
Those with cognitive problems may be more trouble for the kind of game that is constantly required reading texts and understanding complex rules. Although not understanding the history of the game is not a huge problem, but not understanding the rules of the game is a big problem.
We must also say that the game is difficult in general. The normal mode would be like a hard mode in other games, but we can enjoy it without problems thanks to easy mode, which I recommend to all those who are not experts in this type of game. Besides the easy mode is the only one in which the tutorials are appear gradually during the game, whenever we are in a new situation; in the normal mode tutorials do not appear but we can always go to menu tutorials and view, but this is a more complicated and boring way to learn the rules.
We must understand that removing this complexity would change the game fundamentally and although they could have created another game mode with simple rules, they did a great job including some features to help the game accessibility. There is no time limit to make our movements or to read messages on the screen, we can save the game at any time and the tutorials are very comprehensive, and explained graphically. We may at any time press aid over each option from any menu of the game or the features and equipment of our characters, with which has a popup explaining that means choice, quality or object.
There is also an option to change game speed, but this only affects the speed at which they move, for example, the characters around the board once given an order. This option to change the game speed and options for those who do not want to waste time watching animations but it is not an option that can help someone control the game, it is not necessary as this is a game turn based and no time limit.
Although many people do not like this game because it does not have a next-generation graphics, or use the new Wii control functions; Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn is one of the best games of this genre and one of the best of the Wii in general, in my opinion, in addition to the large amount of options that will help more people to enjoy it.
