Do you like crazy roller coasters? How do you feel when there are parts of the track missing you have to jump over? Good… do we have a game for you. This week’s AbleGamers Web Game of the Week is Epic Coaster from Armor Games.  The premise of this game could not be simpler, you are on a self propelled roller coaster that has some missing track pieces and you need to keep the ride going by jumping the gaps.  Sound Easy, well, it is, except when it is not.

Accessibility

Epic Coaster is a one-switch game, for those who are not familiar with one switch games, here is the skinny. A One-switch game is a game that uses just one button to play. It is not the first time a one-switch game has made it into the mainstream of web games.  In the case of Epic Coaster, you can use the mouse button, or the space bar. That is it!

If you are a clicker or a keyboard user, this game has you covered. This makes it a great game for the physically disabled gamers among us. The game offers nothing from the soundtrack that is not visible from the screen, which means the game will be very accessible to gamers who are deaf. There is also no issue for our colorblind friends out there.

epic_coaster_splashThere is a special note for our cognitively disabled gamers out there. This game is a textbook example of what NOT to do to support your community. Epic Coaster has many very distractive elements by design. I suspect that they are there with the intent to get you to mess up an otherwise very simple game concept, but you may find these additional elements are a total distraction that you cannot work around.

Go check out Epic Coaster and if you like what you see, leave a comment. Don’t like it, share that with us too!  Hate monkeys? Well, you get the idea.

Mark,

I love the screams as the coaster plummets to its doom!

Thanks for pointing this one out.
