The lazy days of summer are winding down for me, I am about to start my Senior year in college so I thought what a better way to end the summer then a casual trip down a river in a raft. But why deal with the sun burn, bug bites and hassle of getting a raft when you can play Raft Wars.

Raft Wars is unique game, with a simple but fun game play. Projectiles are fired at your opponent, they ricochet and people take damage when they collide into each other. The accessibility advantage to this is the game does not require a lot of precision to have fun, and its mouse only so it only a one click wonder to make the tennis balls fly!

The great hit detection system is great for us Ablegamers with physical impairments including one handed gamers, the system takes over the precision part for us and we just have to point and click. Also you can stop and take breaks whenever but there is no official pause button. The game also offers onscreen cues with a mouse animation telling you how to interact with the game, this may be a good for a cognitively disabled gamer.

With all those positives there has to be some negatives the game’s item selection is weak, there are only two weapons in addition to the starting tennis ball, and they are only a moderate step up. There is also a missing feature that we see in other games like this, and that is a ghost of your last shot, so you have to kind of remember where you were before you take your next shot.

All the battles take place at sea or on a river. The starting raft can be upgraded three times, with each upgrade increasing your party and the room you have to stand on.  With 10 levels there are plenty of opportunities to battle it out and try the various upgrades. This game has an amazing built in learning curve so people of all skill levels can play!

raft_wars_splashRaft Wars is also visually striking and The 10 levels feature different sceneries like a beach and a forest theme and the enemies are people like pirates and Vikings. The enemies in raft wars are excellent, both graphically and game play wise.

But with that being said although there are subtitles in the beginning of each level there is not much text and indicators within the level so for example colorblind will have a lot of issue seeing the weapons and seeing if enemies are dead.

Sounds are not an intricate part of the game but they are fun and add to the gameplay. The subtitling in the start is the instructions for the levels and has a very interesting song but other than that I prefer to play with the sound off.

Overall, Raft Wars, The action is fast paced, the play control is good and the graphics are excellent and most of all it is very accessible!
