Fantastic Contraption is a combination between a physics game and a building blocks session. The creators give you view a variety of tools, a goal, and an object that needs to get into said goal. How you go about doing just that is completely up to you.
The tools you are given have changed a little bit since the original. You still have your forward and reverse wheels, water and wooden rods, and the ever popular save feature. But you also get chains and magnets in the sequel.
To give you a brief example, the game works something like this:
You put down a couple of wheels and attach them together with the water rods. Then use the wooden sticks to attach the object to your vehicle. Once you think your contraption will do whatever it's supposed to do, press the start button and watch it do its thing.
If you build your craft successfully, the object will move into the goal and allow you to move on to the next level. Although you don't have to just build vehicles, people have been known to build catapults, drawbridges, pulley systems, and many other innovative ways to complete each level.
There are 21 free to play levels with an additional 45 levels if you want to buy access to the game for $10. Purchasing the game also gives you access to the player created levels, which can be very challenging. There is a large and passionate community behind the Fantastic Contraption saga that creates numerous levels as well as suggesting improvements to the overall game.
Strangely enough, the creators actually listen and included many of the community’s ideas in the sequel. Things like achievements were largely added because players were already competing for things like; complete a level but remove all of the objects afterwards or complete a level using only certain tools. The developers loved this idea so much that they included those philosophies into the achievements as badges
Fantastic Contraption 2 relies heavily on the mouse but there are some keyboard shortcuts. Deaf gamers don't need to worry about any instructions as everything is written on the screen. Colorblind gamers shouldn't have too many difficulties even though the game does use a lot of red and green due to heavy black outlines clearly marking the important areas.
Overall, this is one of our most favorite games here at AbleGamers and one you certainly don't want to miss. Find out if you have what it takes to build your way through every level of one of the most interesting indie web games to date in Fantastic Contraption 2.
