AbleGamers' web game of the week is Coins. You can tell a good puzzle game from a poor one by how frustrated you get while playing it and how satisfied you are once you figure it out. Using these criteria, Coins is one of the best puzzle games out there. It's a concept so deceptively simple that its solutions take you by surprise and are often overlooked.
The rules of the game are simple: you need to move the coins in such a way that they fill up the darker circles of the level. However, you may not move a coin unless it moves to a location in which it touches at least two other coins. The idea starts off simple and slow enough, but eventually you'll be staring at the screen for a minutes at a time just thinking about your next move. After level 20 (there's 40 in total) the rules change a bit: a second color of coins is added into the mix, and now every time you move a coin it must be touching at least one coin of both colors. So just when you think you're getting the hang of the puzzles, the game throws you for a loop.
The game's accessibility is rather good. Gamers with cognitive disabilities will struggle as many of the puzzles are quite difficult, especially towards the end. All movement of the coins is done with mouse clicks and you are in no way timed. You also have unlimited moves, as there is only a move counter for the medals you can earn. There's no undo button, but you can reset the puzzle if you make a mistake. Colorblind gamers may run into some issues, however. Coins need to be placed in certain areas to complete a level, as indicated by a "stain" on the background. These stains are very light and hard to see. When the second set of coins is added they aren't too difficult to differentiate since the new set of coins is rather dark when compared to the original coins. Gamers with low vision may also have a hard time seeing the stains on the background. Sound is not needed to play the game at all, so gamers with hearing disabilities will be just fine.
