Resident Evil 5 - BSAA to the Rescue. Do I Get Hazard Pay?

resident_evil_5_splash.jpgResident Evil 5 is made by Capcom and retails for approximately $52-$59.99 depending on where you shop.

Presentation: It starts the game off with a strange looking lady that some people refer to as the bird lady infecting some unfortunate person. Then it goes to your arrival to investigate a bio terrorist attack in an African city. You meet your new partner that explains her purpose and why she is joining you on your mission. You walk through the town and eventually meet up with your contact and use you your first weapon. Everything is explained at a wonderful pace and never seems to get slow. I think the presentation is excellent.

 • After the killing spree was done, Kit gives this game a 62 out of 100. You can see the breakdown here.Pros: Beautiful graphics, excellent sound, re-playability is off the charts, the different difficulty levels are noticeable and there are many trophies.
 • Cons: No custom key mapping, the story mode may be slow to some people.

Graphics: The graphics and little details are absolutely wonderful. There are minimal graphical glitches that are hard to notice, even after the patch, I do not see any graphical problems that some people have noticed. Little details like lights swaying after an explosion or being shot by your handgun. A lot of the environment will react to what's going on around it in very subtle ways that are actually nice to see. Graphics take advantage of the next generation hardware. The PlayStation three version seems to look slightly more realistic than the Xbox 360 version. The Xbox 360 version is a little more vibrant, but slightly less realistic. This game has excellent graphics, which are very eye pleasing.

Sound: The sound is very well done and supports digital sound. The weapons sound just right for a game of this genre. The voice acting is top notch and the characters sound just like they should. The sound effects are the best part, the music could have used slightly more variation but it is still really good. Excellent digital soundtrack.

Controls: The controls are just like in Resident Evil 4 except for the addition of strafing. This is only good for dodging arrows and charging attacks. There are other control styles that do not use the new addition, if you're more comfortable with original controls. Customizable key mapping would have made this game so much more accessible. The controls are responsive with my controller and play smoothly. They have settings for the speed of aiming which can accommodate most people's play styles. It's a very good control scheme, but it may give some one handed gamers slight difficulties since the gun and knife buttons are on the left trigger. A specially made controller can alleviate the problem easily.

Replayability: This game has a lot of replayability with the additions of trophies, mercenaries mode and if you purchase the downloadable content, a versus mode where you can kill each other competitively. To get all the achievements/trophies you'll need to play through the game multiple times. The ability to play with your friends via split screen or the Internet also makes the game enjoyable multiple times. This game is definitely worth purchasing for the replayability factor!

Accessibility: Those who are hearing should have no problem playing this game. Everything is subtitled and has visual cues on the screen. it does make a warning noise when your partner is in trouble but it also shows onscreen visuals of where your partner is and that they are in trouble. Also when your partner is in the process of dying it blinks in red letters to warn you. Color blind individuals should be fins because the game tells you what buttons to push on screen during RTE events.

For one-handed players using a normal controller RTE events might be difficult because some of them require L1&R1 to be pressed together simultaneously, which are on opposite sides of the controller. Also the gun and knife are by default L1/L2 to ready the weapon and R1 to use the particular weapon that you have ready. A configurable/switch adapted controller could easily solve this problem.

Closing comments: This is an extremely enjoyable game by default but RE5 is not necessarily the most accessible game in the world without a specially made controller for whatever your limitations might be. The game does not require any kind of motion control. I absolutely love this game and can't stop playing it! My friend who is a one-handed player is getting a one-handed controller so they can play this game and her input will be added into this article later!

Yeah I have bit of hard time when the L1 + R1 comes up if I'm not ready. The Coop in this game is so nice. Boss fights are fun as long as you don't have the AI side kick with no ammo. So much to unlock and tons of hidden items. I don't like having to hold button to aim and on top of that can't move but I'm getting used to it. I'm happy there is unlimited ammo for most of the weapons but they do make you earn it. One thing that kinda suck though is no pause, so better plan out your bathroom breaks if you coop with someone online lol. Oh yeah big shock that japan rules the leader boards and my hand hurts from playing to much.
