To begin with, the Jedi Knight is directly based on the character of Mace Windu and the guardian profession from RPG Knights Of The Old Republic.
The back-story of this class seems is very intriguing. The Jedi Knights have been the peacekeepers of the Republic for many a millennia and a beacon of hope to many throughout the galaxy. Although, during the timeline of this game the Jedi Order has had to retreat to the planet of Tython due to the growing threat of the Sith. This move to Tython has made many politicians of the Republic wary and some of them feel that the Jedi Order have abandoned them, so, there is mistrust for the Jedi altogether.
The Sith have won countless battles, expanded their Empire and put the Jedi on defense.
With all that has happened to the Republic in these dark, uncertain days the Jedi Knight is still unwavering in their devotion to serve and protect the Republic. They are always called upon to protect senators and ultimately, the galaxy. The main purpose of the Jedi Knight in this game is to hunt down and destroy the Sith, including others that have endless support for the Empire.
The Jedi Knight is a very powerful warrior of the force; they have the ability to use powers such as, force push, saber throw, force valor and other types similar to the guardian in KOTOR. They have many saber abilities at their disposal and can wield two light sabers. The Jedi Knight plays a couple of vital roles during combat. While fighting in a one-on-one melee their power is unmatchable. While fighting in groups their role is as that of the tank, they stay in forefront keeping the focus of enemies on them. They can also protect with their ability to enhance the strength of a group with the power of the force.
In terms of accessibility, this class may not be the best choice for some disabilities. The Jedi Knight is about jumping into a battle quickly, dominating the fight and protecting allies. Players that like fast combat are going to enjoy this class. One accessibility option that the developers left out for the player is an auto-attack feature, this will make some disabled gamers avoid this game altogether, especially the gamers that want to play as this archetype.
It would benefit everyone, developer and player alike, to be given the option to turn auto-attack on and off, there should be no advantage or disadvantage to using this feature but only to make fighting a little easier for some. To play as the Jedi Knight it is going to require you to attack fast, have quick reflexes and be able to think out tactical strategies just as fast.
With so much war, tension and mistrust of the Jedi during this time in The Old Republic, this class is shaping up to play one of the more important roles in the galaxy. They act as bodyguards and diplomats; you will be doing many missions in these areas. Although this class will have some drawbacks, it also has some great abilities and benefits.

From an accessibility perspective, I can see how no auto-attack would be extremely off-putting and limiting. However, from a universe continuity perspective, I can see why they would make Jedi harder to play than other classes.
Does anyone know if they are enabling auto-attack for the other classes? From Steve's article, it sounds as if only Jedi (and I'd assume Sith as well) would not be allowed to use auto-attack.
My thoughts are that if there is no auto-attack for jedi that there is no auto-attack for any of the classes. They aren't going to add this feature to other classes mainly because Bioware would get complaints about allowing auto-attack for one class but not another.
Bioware really needs to consider putting this feature in before they release the game, I'm not sure if they will though.
I recently sent a message to Bioware concerning the accessibility of The Old Republic. I just got a response from the Community Coordinator: he said that it will be as accessible as any other MMO. I told him that the only one I've ever really played is Guild Wars, and it was incredibly accessible, and he said that if I can play Guild Wars just fine, I'll be able to play TOR just fine as well. I don't quite understand the logic of turning off auto-attack for the Jedi. From what I've seen of the game's "head-up display," it looks as if it wouldn't make any sense at all to take away auto-attack for the Jedi Knight class. Just out of curiosity, where did you hear that they had removed auto-attack for this class?

Hey all, just watched this video over at the swtor.com site, it looks like they have "some" kind of auto-attack system at least. If you watch the video they show the smuggler, bounty hunter, and sith warrior classes in action and it appears they are attacking enemies with just their action buttons in some instances. But, they also show that all 3 of these classes will probably require some bit of moving around and changing positions during more difficult fights. It looks to me like you could just auto-atack some fights but you'd end up taking much more damage without shifting positions or running around: http://www.swtor.com/media/tra...alkthrough
