McDonald's Blames Video Games for Fat Kids.

3434_bm185_262531a.jpg Hey put down that game controller, joystick, or keyboard and pick up a Big-Mac, because it is not the 540 calories in the two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun...it is World of Warcraft or some other game that is making you fat. God help you if you have a TV on while you are playing that game, because you may be putting on the flab by the second, at least this is what the CEO of McDonald's UK, Steve Easterbrook , said when asked about childhood obesity .

"The issue of obesity is complex and is absolutely one our society is facing, there's no denial about that, but if you break it down I think there's an education piece: how can we better communicate to individuals the importance of a balanced diet and taking care of themselves?

Then there's a lifestyle element: there's fewer green spaces and kids are sat home playing computer games on the TV when in the past they'd have been burning off energy outside."

Odd, because I have been watching TV for some time, and sometimes I am playing a video game, and I have never walked away from a hard-core gaming marathon feeling fat and bloated; in fact, I am hungry more often than not. By no means am I saying that video games are not a contributing factor to all the fat kids, but that is why we have the Wii. Let's just hope that they do not make graham cracker keyboard, because I will have a whole keyboard missing all of those buttons along the top I rarely use. Hmmm F9 or a light crunchy snack... You decide.

*sigh

As a mom, I must say that for most kids there are only 2 people to "blame" for kids being fat - mom and dad. We are the ones with the money who buy the food. We decide whats for breakfast, sometimes lunch since they are in school, and dinner. We are the ones who decide if/when/what our kids do at home. We are responsible. That's the bottom line. No one wants to say that but that is the truth. We should spend less time pointing fingers at other people and use that time to go play WITH our kids outside. If my fat ass can do it anyone can. :p A little gaming isnt going to kill anyone either.
