Thursday was my second and final day at GDC. The day started a little later because the Expo did not open till 10 AM. We left the house at 8:00 AM. Traffic was relatively light and we made it to downtown San Francisco by 9 AM.

We parked in the same Garage and got the same handicap spot, which told me today was going to be another great day! We made the trek to Moscone South and this time it was a lot easier because we knew where we going and we were familiar with the area. But best of all, I had perfected going down curb cuts and navigating the crowds; my confidence was really high.

Since we got there early we browsed the Microsoft Lounge. We looked at the new windows phone. Very cool but the touch screen was difficult to scroll and tap icons. Then I played BioShock 2, which was fun but a little too heavy on the story due to the limited amount of time.

I played a Microsoft’s version of Asteroids and it was a basic game that would be great for the Ablegamers community since it only requires the control stick and one button that can be modified to your needs. This game is untitled and should be coming out in the summer!

Then it was off to NeuroSky to test out their amazing products that will be perfect for the Ablegamers community; the Brain to Computer Interface technology promises to revolutionize the traditional gaming paradigm, enhancing interactivity and in many instances, increasing the mental benefits of game play.

After Neurosky, I strolled around the expo handed out some cards and met with some old friends! Had a great time chatting with people and made some great connections. Then it was time to go pick my GDC 2010 t-shirt. The line was around the block and wrapped around for almost a half a mile. Got the T-shirt and could not believe how much longer the line had gotten.

Now, it was time to cruise on down to Intercontinental total for a meeting with Gamers first. We had a great chat about accessibility and previewed the following five games; the first three are ready to play now. Those are Knight Online which is a MMORPG. Then we saw Sword of the New World which is another MMORPG and finally War Rock which is a MMOFPS.

We got to see to upcoming titles that will be coming out this summer such as Taikodom, which is a Space action MMO. But the game I am most excited about is Victory, a MMO Racer, the publisher develops titles that are very accessible and are fun to play but more about that later in another article.

Next, it was off to a session with Gamigo to hear about Black Prophecy. This is the first Sci-Fi Space MMOG that dares the step towards action-oriented gameplay from a third-person and first person perspective. This game is in closed beta in Europe but will be in the USA soon!

The Day is not done yet. I still have two more appointments Telltale Games featuring Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse. This was a great demo and it will be very accessible to our community. This game will be launching on April 15th.

Then it was off to 2k games for a demo of Civilization 5 and Mafia II. Civilization was a great demo the graphics are crisp and this game will be the perfect mix of history and strategy. This will be a PC title and unfortunately they had no accessibility testing in place yet but I will be following up with them.

Then it was off to a demo of Mafia II, which is Xbox 360 title. This game is basically a mix of Grand Theft Auto and the Godfather but it has not been tested for accessibility and will be out within the year.

Last but not least I went back through the expo for some last minute interviews and catching up with friends. I loved my time in SF! Met some great people, saw some great products, saw some great games, and got to see some amazing people that have been a huge influence on my life. Thanks Ablegamers for this opportunity!

Good stuff Rebecca. Saw you from a distance on Tuesday I think it was. Wanted to come over and say hi, but the sea of people was intense!

Cool stuff, I don't know about Neurosky, but the Emotiv Epoc is something to keep an eye on. It is a BCI headset like Neurosky. But its more advanced.

That's awesome, Rebecca. I'm glad you were able to get some face-to-face time with these folks (I didn't get a chance to read your GDC posts until a few minutes ago). It's nice to know that they're more open to communication than some similar companies have been historically.

It'll be great if this thing works as advertised. It would be interesting to try to incorporate it into some of my human-robot communication research; imagine being able to teleoperate an assistant robot without lifting a finger!
