• No Barriers to Fun!

We met our friend Giddeon at the AbleGamers Accessibility Arcade in Atlantic City, New Jersey. When he first sat down with the AbleGamers crew, Giddeon didn't want to play any games. He told us that with his disability gaming was difficult. Giddeon has a rare disease that caused the growth of his arms .. Read More

About the AbleGamers Foundation

Since 2004, the AbleGamers Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity, has served more than 56 million members of the disabled community by advocating greater access in video games. Today, AbleGamers is a leader in the development of equipment, programs and services to those living with disabilities, hardships, and quality-of-life issues that are a result of chronic illness or trauma. It is our goal to ensure that all people, regardless of their disability, can use gaming as a tool to have enriched social experiences with friends, family, and the world at large.

Precap A Look Ahead to Day Two @ GDC

shoptalk.jpgWow. So we clearly need more Tylenol if we are going to handle the craziness that will ascend upon San Fran this evening as those attending GDC proper arrive for tomorrow. Right now we’re moving through the 10 different summits they are having this year and then, of course, I have all the IGDA yearly biz meetings…and tonight’s press junkets may kill us. We have WAY too many invites. Don’t get me wrong – I mean this is GDC 8 for me and it’s not easy breaking in but now…wow. My mentors through the years have confirmed my suspicions and eased my guilt – after a while you are triple booked every hour of the day and can sometimes only make the talks YOU are giving. Luckily we all share our recaps of our talks at the private speaker lounges…so it all works out. We get the new content as we all hang out and catch a break from the crowds. And now we get on every RSVP list, which is very cool…and I’m very grateful that the years of advocating for game accessibility is finally getting us into events where we can talk to the CEOs directly at their own events.

I love GDC – I guess I’m officially a “vet” now so it’s fun to have a license to just be myself and just go with it. Today I’m running the Diversity mini-summit at 2pm and I’m sure it will be one wild conversation. I mean it will be a room of THE most active social justice in gaming evangelists all planning our next year. Who knows how long that meeting will last!! Then…wow…Mark and I have got to map out the locations of tonight’s events. Everything is all over the dang city! Uh…taxi? Watch for 2am PST post-mort recaps!

xoxo
