Master Time (Again) with Singularity

singularity_splash.jpgFirst person shooters (or games in general) that offer the ability to manipulate time certainly aren't unique anymore. However, with the upcoming sci-fi shooter, Singularity, developer Raven Software is aiming to provide familiar time-bending gameplay in some unique ways.

You'll play as fellow who is stranded on a mysterious island that's attempting to get the hell off, essentially. While there, he'll discover that the island was a hub for Russian Cold War experiments, and stumbles across an apparatus known as the... Time Manipulation Device (TMD). No, not the most original of names for this device, but I suppose it serves the purpose.

With your TMD, you'll be able to manipulate time in various ways, such as rewinding, fast forwarding, and object freezing, which will allow you to launch projectiles at enemies. And of course, you can expect a variety of puzzles that you'll need to solve via your TMD as well.

So it sounds quite a bit like Half-Life and TimeShift. But Raven Software is aiming to set Singularity apart from these titles via the grisly new methods you'll use to annihilate your enemies courtesy of the TMD. For example, you can use fast forwarding to cause a foe to rapidly age and disintegrate before your eyes. Gruesome. By the same token, you can rewind time to cause an excruciatingly painful death as your victim ages in reverse.

At this time, a release date has not been confirmed, but the game will available for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC in 2009. To watch an interesting video preview, check out the official Singularity website.
