Converts? Once a user got their hands on the iPad 38% of respondents said that they did not plan to buy another portable gaming device, sorry DS and PSP, the iPad is cutting into your market in a big way.. This is because the iPad is so diverse and offers so many gaming options as well as being so enjoyable to users of all skill levels, most at a very reasonable price point. For example, for the casual gamer there are games like Diner Dash Grilling Green ($4.99) and for the more active of gamer there are games like Civilization Revolution ($12.99).
It is survey results like this that proves the iPad is a force to be reckoned with much like the iPhone in terms of gaming. It looks like the iPad could make this trend even bigger because of the size of the device and its accelerometer really make for an immersive gaming experience as well as having the same 1GHz A4 processor used in the iPhone 4.
Gaming on the iPad will get even better with the launch of the Apple Gaming Center coming in the fall. It is newsworthy for the following reasons. First, because it brings those social gaming tools to a new crowd of nontraditional and casual gamers. Secondly, Apple’s Game Center is the first Xbox Live-like social gaming service available to any small team or individual that makes games out of passion.
That means these features will be included in innovative new games from creative people who can afford to experiment. Expect surprising and fun applications and innovations that you haven’t seen on other gaming platforms. Finally, the fact that Apple is a frontier environment they always keep us guessing with new and exciting features that will be sure to send the gaming industry into frenzy.
Overall, iPad gaming is on the rise capturing new gamers of all types and skill levels and also another interest fact is that 37% of respondents who owned or were planning to own an iPad said that it would be their first Apple product. This is impressive and interesting because it has the potential to pull more customers into the Apple ecosystem.

The study is rather limited since it s only done on the us market. It would be far more interesting to see a global study. I'd love to see how it does in japan for example.
The apple hype does have an effect on e-readers. These have been too expensive. That was also in part because they were a new niche product. A lot of people still have never seen an e-reader, or a tablet for that matter.
In fairness though the price cuts were already on the way pre ipad. Two new low cost chisp had been released last year, and several budget brands had announced e readers. You can now get a non touch 6" for under E150.
The initial purchase price of ipads is a negative factor. For the same price you could pick up 3 other devices. What made netbooks so popular was their very low price. (Their limited specs is why you can always find plenty sold second hand.)
You know, I really love my iPad, but I have yet to see some games that really push the ipads limits, mostly because all (or most) of the game developers are accustomed to making games on limited platforms, and it would be great to see some games that really take over the ipad's specs. Games like LIMBO for the xbox 360. For some reason, I could see that being a really awesome iPad game.
