GDC 2010 in San Francisco starts soon and I am doing some prep to see what games are premièring at GDC this year. But most headlines are just full of rumors or top secret or hiding names of the titles because they want you to attend their sessions at the conference.

So, with that being said I will be discussing the trends for gaming that will be premiering at GDC 2010. Those trends are with the iPhone and Android gaming where mainstream titles are being transferred to these smartphones. These games will be written in the programming languages of Java and C++ with great graphics and the accessibility factor

Another trend within the gaming world is via the handhelds like the DS, DSi or PSP and the games for them are now focused on cross-platform development. A lecture this year will be focused on Club Penguin DS and how they merged the online game to allow the player to advance from non-online play and provide multiplayer play beyond mere competition combined to create a formidable challenge.

I am sure Ablegamers will enjoy these cross-platform style games because it allows more customization and most of all; more fun!

Most of the trends are dealing with gaming on the go. Developing a game for one platform such as the iPhone is considered simple. Developers are hesitant to developing games for other mobile platforms because of issues with screen size, CPU and graphics performance, input systems, memory capacity and audio capabilities of different mobile devices.

But the tides have turned because mobile gaming has becoming such a huge part of our daily lives. This is great news for some AbleGamers because these means a lot of options in terms gaming for people with all skill levels because game developers are now having an open dialogue about how make games for different devices and needs.

Finally, the most exciting trend is the rise of online and social gaming. Since the average user spends 2-3 hours a day on social networking sites like Facebook you are more than likely to play an application like Farmville or Cafeworld. Friends are an intricate part of social network and gaming is way more fun with friends!

Because of the rise of these games the Facebook platform has been at the forefront of massive disruptions in who plays games, how games are discovered, distributed, designed and operated, and how games monetize and leverage device capabilities.

Now that your friends are in the game, the possibilities are endless. Friends make gaming more fun and creative, so why not merge more time with friends, social networking and gaming all into one!

These are the trends to watch at GDC 2010! Check back soon to hear our coverage of the events as they happen while I run around and get our message out to everyone.
