On March 16, 2010, Dragon Age Origins: Awakening will be available for download on PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC. But will it be just as accessible as the first?

According to all previews available; yes. All of the same features that made Dragon Age Origins the 2009 most accessible game of the year will return in the new extension. You'll still be able to pause the game and issue orders, use the mouse or keyboard, read numerous subtitles including ambient noise, and play the game with no colorblind issues.

We have not been able to confirm if the same small text will plague the expansion as it did in the original. One hopes that with the outcry from the first Dragon Age Origins, and the outcry from Mass Effect 2, all over the unreasonably small text for certain gamers would make all developers take a second look at how small they think we can read.

There will be 24 new spells and 34 new talents. We will have access to new characters and a few old friends.  In addition, all romances have been put on hold while the Grey Wardens attend to the new foes.  We will not have access to romantic options for any of the new characters or any of the old characters.

Presumably, this is because scripting romances takes additional development time. Awakening is the first of several downloadable expansions for the smash hit, whose developers’ hope to take advantage of the critical success by quickly launching content.

You will be able to start a new character or import your old character from the original.  Even if your character didn't make it in the final battle you will be able to continue at the same level with all of your same items.  Of course, you can also make a new character but there will be no custom beginning dependent on your race as there was in the original.

For those of you who enjoyed Dragon Age Origins you will absolutely love Awakening.  Keep a watch out for special offers for early downloaders on Steam and other digital retailers.  For more information please visit the Dragon Age Origins Awakening FAQ website.
