While my experience with MMOs is fairly limited, I have to concur with what most of the other posters have said.

When I started playing Star Wars Galaxies several years ago, the game recommended that I play on the Radiant server. Considering it was my first MMO experience and I had nothing to base a decision on (no research, knowledge of which server focused on what aspect of gameplay, etc.), I accepted the game's recommendation.

As many SWG players know, Radiant was sort of like the Mos Eisley Cantina of all the servers - flaming, PvP, tea bagging, the works. It was an over-the-top population of passionate, skilled players who loved the game and loved the environment and usually, with more or less degrees of good-naturedness, seemed to hate each other. The forum flame wars were legendary, often getting the entire server banned from posting for a day or two. The PvP wars were ridiculous and featured some of the most exceptionally skilled people on any server (and I'm being quite literal - on any given day, 1/2 of the top 10 players in PvP kills across every single server in SWG were from Radiant).

I didn't know ANY of that when I started playing on Radiant. I asked questions. I said please and thank you, and apologized for taking people's time but explained that I was new and needed suggestions or tips, etc. Some people were exceptionally rude. More people were brusque, but answered the question. Some people ignored me outright. And then there were the rest of the people - all the crazy, flame warring, PvP kill spreeing people mentioned above? Those were the same people, for the most part, that took the time to help and answer questions, etc.

The pilots who went nuts in space every week? Those were the people most likely to give people ships and parts to fly. The PvP players? Once they'd seen people out there a bit, they usually would at least give direction to help players contribute, if not survive, and would eventually provide tips to excel.

My experience with City Of Heroes was much more limited, but the player base seemed very friendly and eager to help newer players.

In short, mileage varies - I've had fantastic experiences on servers known for being rowdy and I've had terrible experiences on servers known for being civil. The best I can suggest is to find a game that actively policies gold farmers and punishes them, and avoid games that rely on micro-payments to subsist.

Edit: and btw, it's not any of the obvious things. Cookie storage is fine, because my sessions are maintained on other websites, and I check the "remember me" box.

I'm still having a problem with having to login every time and the site seeming to forget my password; I'm guessing it's probably a combination of NoScript and all the Facebook cookies that I've permanently denied.

I played the game long time ago but I still was able to use the keyboard so there was no real need for me to use the mouse. As far as I remember I took a look at the controls and steering by mouse was not possible. but don't forget, I am not really sure about it. I can't imagine that a demo version would have different configuration possibilities than the full product.

Why don't you just send an e-mail to EA support and ask them? that way they would have at least one response about problems for disabled people.

Technically it is of course possible to have a racing game where you can steer via mouse. One example is 'enter the matrix'.

NASCAR hasn't gotten a new game since 2008, and I think it's largely EA's fault, though not much changes from year to year in NASCAR. That being said, it'd be the perfect franchise for season update patches for $10 or so. Before that happens, they need someone that doesn't completely suck at racing games.

I've gotNHL 11 on pre-order from Amazon with release date delivery - improved checking and improved fightingsince my last hockey game4 which was on the PS2.

I don't mind sports game aside from all things football and futbol. Golf isn't really a big one for me. If I ever decide Kinect or Move, golf will probably be one the agenda - or better yet, mini-golf!

Needless to say I'm in. I can even take on a JRPG every once in a while.

one cool tip for playing first-person shooters: use the right mouse button as your forward-key.

Second tip: go to www.dwvac.com and give VAC a try. The program uses Microsoft speech API which in fact is a very powerful voice-recognition runtime. The speech API is part of Windows 7 and Windows Vista. Windows XP doesn't have it natively but it can be installed. The aforementioned website is also hosting a installation package for XP that contains the speech API. I tried say2play but I found it very clumsy and recognition was very poor for me. it can't have been a hardware issue because naturally speaking just works flawlessly.

I also don't recomment to use NaturallySpeaking with games. It's a resource hog and doesn't respond very good with games that are very demanding regarding processor power.

What to do if recognition is poor?

Don't forget to runthe voice recognition training of the speech API! It is necessary because the computer has to get used to your voice.

Get a good microphone that has noise cancellation. They aren't overly expensive. 15 to 20 dollars should be sufficient. Andrea are a good brand..

don't use single words as commands. The longer your command phrase is the better. If you have a command [ESCAPE] and [right], it is quite possible that you get a mix up of what you wanted because both words sound similar. So why not change the [ESCAPE] command into [push ESCAPE]?

a very useful command is [back to Windows] which activates alt+tab. That way you can play fullscreen.

Crunchy, no bowing is necessary :) Besides, with the shape my back is in, I couldn't return it without needing help to stand upright again ;)

To an extent, gaming is in its infancy, but it's clearly growing up rapidly. However, even stories told in forms which are more mature (film, TV, etc.) draw similar reactions when those stories touch nerves. Honestly, if I had lost a family member in combat in Afghanistan, I'd probably be torqued if a video game used the organization that killed said family member as an enemy.

I suspect, largely due to people thinking of games as games, rather than an interactive story, that video games are perhaps unfairly subject to unspoken criteria that are not applied to stories in other media.

As one example, consider "The Hurt Locker" - it's set in the current conflict and no one complained about it being exploitative. "Three Kings" was set in the first Gulf War and was released not too long after that conflict ... it too was free of criticism of that nature.

Games, on the other hand, can draw acclaim for realistic portrayals of conflict, but it appears that conflict needs to be removed from contemporary settings, drawing either on historical or fictional events. Call Of Duty (especially the games set in WWII) and Fallout 3 are both highly acclaimed with little attention paid to exploitation.

As games deal with more recent subjects and actual events, people tend to think more about the play part of games, which feels disrespectful to people who have died. I get that. But I believe that, in this case, it's because we're still thinking of video games as toys, when games like Bioshock have shown us that, at least in some cases, we need to think of gamers as stories that a player takes part in.

On a final note, why do another Halo game? Several reasons - fulfilling a contract for a specified number of games could be one. Money, money and money - there's three more.

Now get to work on Assassin's Creed. It's awesome ;)

Well, what I have learned is my point is proved that mmo's suck, ppl flame me, I cannot get ahead w/o someone being nice enough to hold my hand, and that single player games such as The Elder Scrolls are much better for someone like me. Although on one MMO, I did come across someone who is an Aspie or something.

I recently started using Windows Speech Recognition for some games (Starcraft 2 mainly). I can say the hotkey letter and it will trigger it.. And with the Vocola addon you can tie them to phrases. You could do the same with Dragon and say2play but this is free though this takes a bit of Do it yourself scripting. It should work well for any action not repeated a lot. I also started using a one handed keyboard layout.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvorak_Simplified_Keyboard#One-handed_versions

Takes awhile to get used to but so far I'm liking it.
