Joey Haban Staff Writer

Joey Haban was a gamer from the moment the Zork I disk slid into her brand-new IBM PC. Since then she has enjoyed a wide range of games, from Portal to Kingdom of Loathing to World of Warcraft, and everything Bioware has ever made. She has worked professionally in theatre, film, and publishing, but found her vocation as a sign language interpreter and, later, college instructor of English for underprepared deaf students. Working in disability offices spurred her interest in rights and accessibility long before she herself became disabled by several chronic illnesses, including chronic fatigue syndrome, and had to quit working. Joey turned back to writing, and began finding ways to adapt her game playing to her new limitations, both of which, happily, led her to the AbleGamers Foundation. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, a technical director for an Activision company and personal gaming enabler, and two unemployed cats.
