Hollywood is Blaming Halo 3 for Slump

Ben StillerNow between you and me, the reason  Hollywood is in a slump is because it cannot make a good movie to save its life. Film executives disagree; they blame Halo 3. The latest from the Farrelly brothers and the most recent blockbuster-not-to-be, "The Heartbreak Kid," only managed to make a paltry $14 million over its opening weekend. Overall, the movie industry's tickets sales were down a staggering 27% over the same weekend last year making it the worst weekend for the movie industry in over seven years.

Advertising Age says:
Many film executives are convinced audiences stayed home to play Microsoft's carpal-tunnel classic, "Halo 3," which went on sale on Sept. 26. The game sold an astonishing $170 million worth of copies on its first day, before going on to sell well over $300 million.

It doesn't appear the Chief stayed in shrink-wrap for long, either: More than 2.7 million gamers have played "Halo 3" on Xbox Live -- Microsoft's multiplayer gaming offering -- in the first week, representing more than one-third of the 7 million Xbox Live members worldwide. Within the first day of its launch, "Halo 3" players racked up more than 3.6 million hours of game play, and that number increased to 40 million hours by the end of the first week. For those keeping score, that's more than 4,500 years of continuous game play.
There is more to come from what I see. Games are great, and they are even greater when you put them up to the trash that is coming out of the studios at the moment. I mean for the love of all that is holy, "Saw IV", how many of these movies do we need?

I like those SAW movies! Besides who knows, maybe someday you will have to know 100 ways to rip a persons face off with some crazy metal contraption. :-)

As a side note, I dont own an x-box and I have never even played Halo but I believe I WILL be going to see the 3-D Nightmare Before Christmas. Woot! So yeah, when they start putting out the good stuff people can, will, and do go to see it. Dont blame other people because your movies suck donkey balls and no one wants to pay to watch it. Get better writers! Maybe even better actors! Now there's an idea....
