{sidebar id=1}Remember back in the day, before Xbox Live took off? It seems like decades ago, but something has gone missing since then, multiplayer bots. Those little AI enemies that I used to spend hours fighting against in 007 Nightfire have performed a vanishing act from mainstream games. Rather, I’m delighted to say they had disappeared. While thumbing through an OXM preview, it stated that Call of Duty Black Ops will include bots.
Call of Duty will have a Combat Training mode in which players can play against up to eleven bots in a wide range of multiplayer modes. Since it is meant to teach players multiplayer game modes and maps, everything will be available in Combat Training making it virtually offline multiplayer. It can accommodate any variety of live players and bots, allowing for you and your friend to play full six vs. six matches. There is one catch though; Treyarch is requiring an internet connection to utilize the mode, although it is unknown if it requires an Xbox Live Gold subscription.
This finally marks the inclusion of an accessible multiplayer Mode. It would make sense for gamers to be able to switch bot attributes like speed, health, and overall skill. What if Combat Training had the same options as Halo Reach’s Firefight? It would be the perfect remedy for those who can’t play the twitch happy multiplayer.
The mode will also serve the punching bag role; it will be there for people when they just want to steamroll someone. Personally, I’m not always looking for a competitive multiplayer game; there are times when I just want to dominate a match and get out my frustration. Combat Training will let me do just that.
The mode also has its own progression system as not to be a quick level up fix for the all new Call of Duty Points system. The new leveling up system turns your armory into a store front. You no longer unlock weapons as you gain ranks, but rather receive in game cash that you can use to purchase new perks, weapons, camouflage, and everything in between.
With all these new features, and the return of zombies, Black Ops is shaping up to be the best Call of Duty yet.
