Command and Conquer 4

Command and Conquer 4 is (supposedly) the final chapter of the Tiberuim saga of the franchise. In this final chapter an element called Tiberium reaches critical levels and is seriously endangering humanity with its toxic qualities, the Brotherhood of Nod betrayed Kane thus Kane had no choice but to side with his mortal enemies GDI (Global Defense Initiative, matters got worse when even commanders, who had bitter feelings for Kane, deserted the GDI and turns to the bad guys.)

Gameplay wise, if you’re expecting the same formula like the previous games, I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed. First, you don't build bases, instead you rely on mobile walker-like units called 'crawlers' to build forces. You deploy crawlers where you like, when deployed the player can start building units, if you’re in serious danger you can repack your crawler and deploy it somewhere else. So there are different strategies to be implied here.

The game uses an RPG-like ranking system, kill the enemy, complete missions, you'll gain experience points, gain enough experience points and you'll level up, gain enough ranks you'll get more powerful units and powers to annihilate the enemy. You don’t gather resources, which is good for people who are new to the game.

The interface is simple, left click to select and right click to move/attack. To produce units, just left click on the icon associated on the command bar at the bottom. However, if the player wants to switch between units, defenses, and powers he/she clicks the small icons or 'tabs' on top of the command bar, which is more than ideal for one-handed gamers. Colorblind gamers on the other hand are going to have trouble as the various players’ units are mainly distinguished by their unique colors.

Also, the game uses an RPG-like class system. Before a battle starts, you pick one of three classes. They are offense, which has units with better weapons, thus an incentive for players to go on the attack, the defense class enables the player to build defense turrets anywhere near the crawler, thus an incentive to players who uses this class to rely on other players to go on the offense and hold the line. Finally the support class uses the 'death from above' ideology as the class favors aircraft, people who uses this class prefers to give cover for the other players when they take the fight to the enemy. Every class builds their own unique set of units, thus the player has to choose their classes carefully, people with sight disabilities might want to avoid this game as you cannot extend the font.

Command and conquer 4 is available in stores for £19($32) and available on Steam for £15($24)

At a glance

Mobility 10 all the player needs to use is a mouse

Hearing 8 you can turn subtitles on for the cut scenes and briefings, but you can’t hear what your units say, which is unimportant and if the player comes under attack flares will show on the mini-map to let the player know.

Visual 6 good quality graphics but colorblind gamers will have trouble distinguishing who owns what unit
