Punch Time Explosion Preview

{sidebar id=1}GDC was almost a month ago and I have had some time to reflect on the awesomeness of the conference. I have to say by far one of my favorite moments of the game development conference was meeting with the developers from Punch Time Explosion.  They were so very nice and very eager to show me the game for the Nintendo 3DS. So, I invite you loyal Ablegamers readers to join me on a preview of the Nintendo 3DS and Punch Time Explosion.

First of all Punch Time Explosion features the casts of some of Cartoon Network’s most iconic shows for the 90’s and early 2000’s. This was a major plus for me as I loved these cartoons from an early age. You can  battle and brawl with characters from your favorite Cartoon Network shows including The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter’s Laboratory, Chowder and many more. There are 18 characters in all so there a character for all cartoon lovers! But the best thing of all is that the game is that it is first ever Brawler for the Nintendo 3DS.

Punch Time Explosion has quite a few unlockable features and that includes 19 addition characters that assist to combat and make your gaming experience even more epic! Plus you can unlock 32 levels of action-packed adventure modes similar to a story mode but you also get free play in 21 unique areas to battle it out and experience the environment with all of its glory and hidden objects that help you win against the baddest of bosses and enemies. Once you have leveled up and gotten certain achievements within the game you unearth a secret playable character from signature Cartoon Network series.

Play in either Battle Mode or Story Mode; compete with 3 other players in multi-player Wi-Fi mode. I had the opportunity to play in battle mode with two of the developers and it was truly a blast. Because not only can you experience environments and play around with ones your closes with but you connect with your friends worldwide.

But the best part of Punch Time Explosion is that it truly showcases what the 3DS can do. For example, the 3D Depth Slider allows you to immediately adjust the intensity of the 3D settings on the Nintendo 3DS system to your liking. The 3D effect can also be turned down completely. With the 3D in the game the characters come to life and pop off the screen making it seem like you are immersed in a cartoon. During the demo I played all three Powerpuff Girls characters and got to see all of their awesome spin and kick attacks. In a 2D game these attacks would not be interesting but 3D brings a whole new dimension to the experience of game.

With the stereoscopic 3D display of the upper screen gives objects within the game world a feeling of space and depth that extends far into the back of the screen. It becomes easier to see the position of characters and obstacles in the world, making many game experiences even more intuitive for all types of players. Also, this is where Punch Time Explosion really shines because the battle areas are based off some of your favorite shows from the Cartoon Network both past and present.

It is almost like a 3D movie with the moveable seats. So you can move around and not feel guilty about being really into the game!

What I love most about this game and interview is that is fun and accessible for all gamers and I encourage you all to go buy the game when it comes out May 2011. This is great combo of cartoons and games from the network we loved as kids or adults! I will leave you all with this quote from the developers of Punch Time Explosion:

“It’s great to see the disabled community take such pride in engaging the video game industry and we hope the new Punch Time Explosion 3DS game will bring joy to gamers of all ages and backgrounds.”

What i'm wondering is if it will come to australia because i'm a huge fan of cartoon network, and all the characters in that game i've known ever since cartoon network showed in october 1999 (i think). Also i've been wishing for a game like this to release literally were those producers reading my mind or something? I hope this game comes out out soon in australia and if it already is then i'm getting it ASAP:-)
