Prime World MMO Preview

The MMO market is never at a loss for content. New games come into the market just as fast as failed ones exit. The development studio Nival is throwing their hat into the ring this year with their MMO called Prime World. Our own Marco Pasqua had a chance to preview the game over at E3 and was exuberant in his report after he got some time to see the game.

Prime World will be a browser-based MMO that utilizes the Unity engine to bring a colorful, 3D MMO experience to Facebook. They have future plans to bring the game to iOS and possibly Android devices while supporting cross-platform play. The two factions available to the player are complete opposites of each other: one is based on nature and raw emotion while the other is based more on industrialization and science. It's the age old fight between man and nature which still rings true today.

Player vs. Player (PvP) interaction seems to be the core element of the game and looks to play out similar to the Defense of the Ancients gameplay, for those who have played that or one of the many DoTA-like games out there. You command one of the heroes on the battlefield and have access to a plethora of abilities that grow in number and power as you level up. The entire game is focused on team combat, allowing up to seven players to play in a game at once. Communication will be crucial if any team wants to have success conquering the various bits of terrain that are up for grabs. As one faction starts to dominate the terrain the surrounding area will actually start to transform to that faction's properties, for example it will become more industrialized if the science faction is winning.

prime-world-pc-mmo-preview-1As Marco jumped into the demo, he chose a "Toad Rider" as a character which I wish I had a chance to see because it sounds awesome. The game is completely customizable, from your character choice to your key mapping. Marco was assured that the game is completely playable with just the mouse and certain classes require less quick reflexes and precision as others, such as the Mage class who fights from the back during battles instead of on the front lines. You can also choose to enter a type of mini-game during the battle which takes you out of the fight. In these mini-games you can earn "Prime" which you can use to get new powers for you or your team to help them during the fight. Marco soon found out for himself just how easy it was to play and was able to complete the demo with using only the left and right mouse buttons.

Marco also noticed that nothing was completely color dependent and reported no problems with the text on the screen. Prime World is looking to be a wonderfully accessible MMO and a good time to boot. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for this game, which is releasing in North America during either Q1 or Q2 of next year.

And of course, you can expect to see the full accessibility review on AbleGamers as soon as press copies become available.
