Since 2004, the AbleGamers Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity, has served more than 56 million members of the disabled community by advocating greater access in video games. Today, AbleGamers is a leader in the development of equipment, programs and services to those living with disabilities, hardships, and quality-of-life issues that are a result of chronic illness or trauma. It is our goal to ensure that all people, regardless of their disability, can use gaming as a tool to have enriched social experiences with friends, family, and the world at large.
When you think of Mac’s you do not think of gaming… You think of high performance laptops or desktops known to get very few viruses. Well, Apple is trying to change the Mac’s image by making it more accessible to gaming. So, in this article I will be introducing you to a few of my favorite new releases for the Mac.
I will first be discussing a Sims 3 expansion pack called The Sims 3: High End Loft Stuff. This game is the perfect addition to the Sims 3 base game because you can transform your Sims’ home into an upscale loft, house, and an awesome downtown.
While doing this you also can provide you Sims with the highest end technologies like a video game system or an ultra-thin television and most fashionable clothing like suits or classic outwear.
According to thesims3.com “As a special 10th Anniversary gifts this expansion pack includes three coveted items from The Sims and The Sims 2 games: The heart shaped vibrating bed, the electric guitar, and the aquarium.”
This is great for all of us loyal followers that been with the franchise since its inception. The perfect mix of past, present and future is in this expansion pack and perfect for any lover of the Sims’
The only downside about this game is that it is quite processor heavy because of the high-end and realistic graphics the fan will turn on and the computer will heat to be very hot after just an hour or so of play. Last but not least this game can only be played on an Intel-based Mac.
Another great game on the Mac that is both educational and fun is called Brain Challenge. This game is great because there are so many ways to play because each day you participate in a daily test; you can choose from a brain test, stress test, or kid test. The first test is just a quick sampler to wet your enthusiasm for the game.
The second set of tests is more of a mini-game themed based test with a lot of distractions to help you train your brain and improve your cognitive ability. As a result you can choose from a brain test, stress test, or kid test.
From Brain Challenge “for example, in the second set of test you must answer correctly to keep a panda balanced on a ball. Kid tests feature simpler versions of the challenges — they’re perfect for the younger members of your household or even for those times when you want to ease into the tougher brain teasers.”
Another favorite mode of mine is Creative mode, where you can create drawings, construct mind-bending mazes, or set off spectacular fireworks displays.
The reason I like this game so much is because I am always looking for fun and creative ways to improve my fine motor skills and this game is great because I can play it for as little as ten minutes a day or I can play it for several hours and not get bored! This game is great because it can run on 10.5 Mac and higher.
Last but not least another great game on the Mac is EVE Online: Dominion. This game is a RPG that is set in the New Eden Region of Space. According to EVE Online: Dominion “Join the more than 300,000 players whose characters roam that persistent shared universe as you seek adventure, enhance your skills, upgrade your spacecraft and acquire new ones, gather resources, and join corporations and alliances.
That last item is key because the allegiances you forge — and break — along the way will determine your place in New Eden.”Even though this game requires an Intel Based Mac this game will not disappoint; the graphics are crisp, the game is fast-past and fun!
In closing, I hope I have provided some insight on the wonderful world of Mac Gaming and peaked your interest to explore the Mac and its gaming capabilities.

These days Apple computers to me means machines for certain user groups, design objects and a bad price vs spec relation.
What would make life for both mac and linux users easier would be better game design. using open standards and so on.
A more console way of thinking could also help. It´s easy enough to make live and windows PE discs. So making games directly bootable is in no way beyond the doable. Neither is giving it full or partial access to the file system or specific partitions.
