Blizzard’s latest expansion to the World of Warcraft series, titled Wrath of the Lich King, broke the one-day sales record by moving them more than 2.8 million copies in a single day. What makes this expansion so good? There are definitely more than a few answers to this question.
First, the development team at Blizzard has gotten away from the EQ style of MMO RPGs. Gone are the days of waiting hours for one single monster to spawn. Today the action is fast-paced with one area leading to the next almost in a sea of information; as if you were part of a story and you are being moved in the right direction.
Second, the one unanimous response from people playing the game when asked about their favorite part of the new expansion has been the resounding feeling that the development team is actually trying to keep players entertained before they get to the ultimate level. The community has often said that the real game of World of Warcraft does not begin until maximum level. The expansion has proved that wrong by allowing players to do extremely interesting encounters and be a part of the storyline well before the maximum level of 80.
The unique flavor of the questing system has always been the draw to this videogame. The lich king adds even more style by introducing new types of quests. Some examples of the cooler content include:
Surfing on a flaming arrow
Flying helicopters in combat and operating a wench
World instancing, where different parts of the world are actually effective when the quests you complete
Controlling battle tanks
Operating harpoon guns
Destroying the world environment
Work with the enemy or sabotage their position in the world
Rescue civilians on a flying hippogriff
And much much more
I know what you're saying… “That’s great Steve, but can I play it?” Fortunately, I have the pleasure of saying most likely you can. Everything that was added into the new expansion can be done by the mouse alone or the keyword alone. Therefore, no matter which device you must use to play, chances are that for many disabled gamers, this world will still be the World of accessibility-craft.
There is still no word on whether Blizzard’s banning program has lightened up on the use of gaming pads, which use macros in order to assist with legal gameplay. However, AbleGamers has not received any emails about players being suspended from using assistive devices in a few months.
Happy gaming!
