Okay o that pretty much says it in the subject, i am a quad with no finger movement but full arm, wrists, and some trunk.
i've been bored out of my mind lately and have been looking up for ways to play an FPS, but i want some of your ideas.
i pretty much refuse to use a sip and puff though, i need a way to use the mouse and keyboard at the same time very hard for me to do but the only keys I really need to use are the keyboard are WASD,

i was thinking about purchasing the EPOC headset but i still need more ideas if it doesnt work.

so please help.

thanks.

Just a brainstorm, as a non-professional. I have no experience adapting gaming equipment, but have 30 years of experience adapting kitchen items for a person with cerebral palsy. Could you attach a stick pointing downward to a glove for your left hand, then use your arm or wrist movements to hit keys with the stick?

i will try it tough.

Hello, i'm highly experienced at adaption solutions. Any foot movement? How well can you move head?

With only arm movements, I reccomend 2 cutting boards each one having four switches you could just slide your fingers or hand against each one. This would give you eight different functions. WASD shoot, aim, crouch, prone or any other combination you require. I can make you the switches very cheaply. this is what I plug my switches into.

It has software that allows you to make any switch any keyboard or mouse function. If you're able to use your feet thats four more functions you could have. Now I know you're really concerned about aiming. You could either use an Xbox 360 controller and use your tounge on one of the joystick for aiming. Or you can buy a joystick mouse and do the same thing.

I would like to know more information about you because I'm almost 100% sure I can get you to play any gamewith your condition.

Agreed 2.5g gram switches would be best. Kit has a "how to" on making the switches on our forums.

Hi, no foot movement, but i can move my head like normal, and here's a little more info see the real problem is not using the keyboard so much but using it quickly and accurately. i don't have control over my fingers but i still use them to type and use my iphone its just hard to be fast and accurate for a long period of time its either one or the other.

just tell me what you want to know and it would be great if i could see a picture of your setup.

I have seen quite a few people who have decent arm control, but not much in their hands/fingers successfully use joysticks for wheelchair control. For most wheelchairs, you can switch out the top of a joystick with a wide variety of shapes and sizes. There are T-bar type shapes, Y shapes, large balls, long sticks, etc.

Obviously, joysticks for computers aren't quite the same, but I wonder if something could be hacked together so that you could set your hand down into a Y shape, or onto a U or T shaped handle, and then use arm movements to control the joystick. Then you could map the axes of the joystick to whatever keys you like (or use an "atari style" stick with a switch interface if that doesn't work).

This page has a few of the handles I mentioned:

Something like this:

Kit and Steve know more than I do, though. You could definitely make a Kit-style controller with four of those lever switches, but instead of putting a small bottle cap in the middle for a finger, you could put a jar lid in the middle to set your hand into/onto. Then you could move it around with arm movements. I wonder if the 2-gram switches would be too sensitive for that sort of larger, gross movement. It would be worth playing around and trying things out.

We are announcing the PhysDCube, an innovative controller for those who have fine motor issues. Its a cube with one open face and clamps to your desktop. You can use up to four of these devices as they use standard USB technology and will be available to console users shortly after. Each side of the inner cube has a vinyl covered actuator, the sides and top of the cube have the same. You push the back of the cube to move forward, the sides of the cubes to either lean or move sideways, the bottom of the cube to move backwards, the outside of the cubes sides can be used to pick up items, or reload weapons, the top of the cube can be used to fire, and you may slap this as hard as you can for additional satisfactory moments. Now the cubes will be very easy to program, a interface will open up showing either 1 to 4 cubes. You simply press the side you want to program, and either hit the key on the keyboard thats needed or button the controller thats needed. Its just that easy, we want to make sure this is accessible to everyone, even those who are not very strong with computers technologies. Im not here to market a product for profit, this is a non profit adventure that we hope to get funded by the industry itself.

Firewalker and I have been chatting off and on and he's agreed to test and if it works keep our first prototype. If this can help others I certainly would love to hear from you, especially any ideas you have to make it better or even constructive criticism is most welcome. The idea is for this to be fine tuned enough for an official showing to various industry outlets.

That sounds like a fantastic project to me, and I'd love to see how it turns out! Are you planning to make them HID compliant, to avoid the need for drivers? If so, you could distribute them preloaded with a default configuration (like what you just described), so they would be essentially plug and play. But then, you could also install your software and customize them to your heart's content.
