Hi, im new
|
|
|
Hi, i wanted to introduse myself. I'm Josh, i'm 24 from Washington and studying game design, mostly story writing and game concept, I also want to start a web gaming channel, sorta like what G4 use to be but they coped out for ratings! I've been gaming since I was 7, favorite game of all time is the legend of zelda: a link to the past. Besides game I love music (Killswitch Engage rocks!) t.v and writing, BTW, is there anyone from Washington here?

Heya Josh! Welcome to AbleGamers!
A web gaming channel on par with early G4 would be über cool. There really hasn't been anything to fill in that void since they sold out, and web video would be the perfect method. Strike while the iron's hot!
I'm from Washington, myself -- a student at UW, as a matter of fact. I'm pretty sure there are a couple other Washingtonians lurking around here, as well. Where are you studying game design?

A welcome from The Netherlands too. A link to the past, was that your first zelda? For it's time it was briliant, but I have a warm spot for MM.
As a zero punctuation watcher, I'd hope you would put in a nice big dose of humor in your channel.

I live near Washington (DC). Welcome to AbleGamers. I hope you enjoy your stay. Just an FYI, in case of sudden decompression of the website masks will fall from the banner menu across the top. Should this happen, grasp a mask and put it towards you. Place it over your nose and mouth and breath. The bag may not inflate, but oxygen is flowing.
No really... welcome!

Hey, thanks for the wellcome, im happy to see that other people like my web gaming channel idea, the web gets infantry more viewers then t.v these days and ratings probably don't matter as muach as they do on t.v.
Bearstion, your right, Humor and hot chics do give great rating, lol

I went to UW for a long time... but it was the U of Wyoming, not Washington.
But I was born on Fort Lewis, and lived in Spanaway/Puyallup until I was about seven, if that counts.
Give me funny and interesting video content to watch at lunch! I often sit and eat in front of my computer at work, and I'm always watching videos from Cracked and Funny or Die, and of course Zero Punctuation every Wednesday.

Hi Josh,
Yeah. I went to the U-Dub too. Back when Red Square was covered with grass and computers were Babbage machines.
What's the hottest thing you're learning in game design?

Re:Hi, im new

Josh,
Just read your chapter.
I read it all the way through without goofing off, so it must be decent.
The good: Cool effects, especially with the hand stuff.
Improvement: Cut your word count by 50%. Use inference and suggestion rather than straight description.
BTW. That was the same advice my poetry prof gave me at the UW.
It just took a lot of years and a lot of reading to figure out what he meant.
Regardless, the fact that you're writing at all is the main thing.
Keep at it.

Josh,
You write good stuff.
You have a good ear (eye?) for making your scenes interesting.
And the scenes are for the most part concise.
Have you read any Hemingway?
He was the master of concise powerful writing.
A quibble: You use the word "defiantly" in a number of places where you probably meant "definitely".
In any event, please do let me see your next chapter.
This is fun.
John

Josh,
It's good.
Your images are vivid.
Your scenes are well paced.
You could improve it by reducing the number of words.
Check out Walter Jon Williams' new book, This is Not a Game.
You two guys write in a similar style.
Oops! Gotta go. A client is here.

Josh,
You do good hooks. I like the bus-sized scorps, the saluting uncertainty, deV.
Cut your word count by c.50%. Your crispness makes up for the verbosity, but paragraph size will kill you in the end.
Robert Wilson's A Small Death in Lisbon is one of the best books I've read. But I never finished his sequel, In the Company of Strangers, because it is too verbose.
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (Little Prince) said something like: A piece of work is finished not when you've added the final necessary part, but when you've removed the final unnecessary part.
