I’ve been a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series since my injury, it was one of the first games I learned to adapt to. I’ve played every game except Final Fantasy XII, After watching all the trailers for the upcoming release of Final Fantasy XIII I really want to play it and am tempted to pre-order it. However, I’m not totally sure if I can play it and would be pretty pissed off if I spent 60 bucks on a game I can’t play. From the trailers it looks like it may not be too difficult (even if I have to use my mouth.) but as we all know trailers can be deceiving. To buy or not to buy that is the question.

Spam Scams (Yeah, it's not game, related so sue me)

I’m sick of hearing about people getting duped by stupid spam emails. Most of scams people tend to get trapped in are so unbelievable that who ever fall for it deserve it. If you get a random email from a Nigerian saying they’ll give you X amount of money but only if you can front them money they need for the “bank” to cash the check. Let’s think this through, you got a random email from someone you don’t know, which is from a country you’ve probably never been to, and with a banking system you’re not familiar with. Hmmm…any warning bells going off in your head? How about the guy who decides to buy his erection medication from the linked website rather then t6alking to an actual doctor. Did you get sugar pills instead of your viagara or have an allergic reaction from the random blend of herbs thrown together in an untested product? Poor you!
Now many of you are agreeing with me and here’s where that might change. Many of the “victims” are elderly individuals who don’t have know real knowledge of the internet. Poor Granny got scammed into donating thousands of dollars to a a girl with needs living saving surgery. Yeah, that sucks but perhaps if Granny isn’t aware enough to realize it’s a scam, she shouldn’t be using the internet. If you would trust Granny with your car because you’re afraid she might take someone out and not know it. You might want to keep an eye on Granny when she’s online. Sometimes I think there should be a test to decide who can use the internet. That’s pretty much it, I await you comments.

My controller doesn't taste like cherries!

What lengths would you go to play video games? I recently bought a PS3 and I’ve had some issues with playing it. Now I have an arcade stick controller but unfortunately it doesn’t have a way to switch to D-pad to an analog stick setting, so there’s not much it’s good for. There are switches and controllers I could buy but they’re all expensive. (I’m a poor bastard)  So I’ve resorted to playing with the normal controller and my mouth and tongue. Using my mouth and tongue to munipulate things is a daily thing for me, so I figured it’d be worth a try. It works somewhat, I can do things around Playstation Home and had surprising success with MLB 09 but for other games like LittleBigPlanet (which I’ll be getting soon) I’m pretty sure this won’t work since I only have one tongue compared to the all he buttons I’ll had to use in other games.

There is an issue I’d like to bring up that bugged me. The controller isn’t tasty. I assumed it sound taste plasticy but it actually kinda tastes like your licking sawdust. Perhaps someone could invent flavored covers for the controllers. Mmmm…cherry.  It also dries out your mouth it reminds me when I’d go visit my Grandma n Florida. Her house was so stuffy I’d have to drink water like every 20 minutes. Just thought I’d make a little blog post.

I went into m email today and saw I had a new follower on Twitter. It turns out its Eric Gwinn, the gadget and games adviser for the  Chicago Tribune. I emailed him last year at some point to talk about a story he wrote. I'm quite surprised at that he is following me but its good to have an eye in the media.

After getting a few emails from people asking where my latest rant is .I’ve decided I’m going to post what I’m working on in my AG blog. Currently, like most people I’m having some financial issues not to mention the fact that the air mattress for my bed is all messed up, which I’ve been going back and forth for a month. Trying to get the one I need. Even with all that going here’s what I’m working on: I’m putting together a list of gaming industry contact info. So when the revamped site is up and running we can reach out to of the industry. I emailed Double Helix Games last week. They are part of the team that made Silent Hill: Homecoming. (One of my favorite game series) If anyone wants to help, I’m trying to track down contact info for the makers of LittleBigPlanet. I’m also looking for some intro music for the AbleGamers Podcast. It’s a bit difficult since unless I putt something together myself, whatever track I use has to be licensed under Creative Commons. I’ve got the guy whose going to be the voice talent for the intro already. I’ve got a voicemail number setup which sends all voicemails as .wav files to my email so they can be added in the Podcast Once I get all the initial crap out of the way I can sit down and record something. As for my next rant I‘ve got a few.ideas in the works. Since my computer is 5 years old and there’s really no point in upgrading any parts. Also the fact that the PS3 fairy seemed to skip over my apartment the night my broken PS2 was under my pillow. It makes it slightly difficult to rant about all things I’d like to. I’m working with annoyances I notice and read about rather then experience. So deal with it! That pretty much sums it up for now. I’ll post again soon. -Tim

Spore Porn..Yes you read right

I was listening to a technology podcast yesterday and they mentioned they were going to talk about Spore toward the end.  So I’m listening contently waiting hear them perhaps do a review or game specs. No, they ended up  talking about how people were making porn spore creatures. Now I enjoy the naked body and the amazing things that can be done to and with it as much as anyone else. This ‘Sporn“  is pushing the limits, no matter how hilarious they may be. Especially since it’s been a little more then a week since the release of spore creature creator   I saw this coming but I didn’t expect to be hearing about it after a week. The reason this pisses me off slightly is the fact that some I’ve seen some amazing things come out of this release.

It wouldn’t bother me so much if I thought it was just 12 year olds going. “Hehehe, look dude I made it have a giant penis.” I have that feeling many of the thousands being banned are made by adults. Very lonely adults.   These creatures are as erotic as tying a cucumber to a house plant. If you really are that desperate there are many places to get porn online.  Just remember its all fun and games until your keyboard get ruined

So, as a result of the massive influx of sporn , EA has had to waste time emailing and banning all the EULA violators  Anyway, I’ll be posting an example of a sporn creature at the bottom. If you offended by a plant like creature with a large lower “organ” Don’t watch the next video..

How I got here. (wow, great title)

I was explaining to one of my friends the other day about AbleGamers. When I was done he mentioned how passionate I was when talking about our site. I thought everyone might want to hear my explanation why and how I found my way here. Notice I used the term our site. Well that's what this is not just a website but a community. Where everyone can contribute and everyone's opinion matters. People helping each other to reach one common goal.

Let me fill you in a bit on my story. When I was 14 I was injured in a jet ski accident. I ended up breaking my neck which left me not being able to walk with limited arm movement and no use of my hands. After the initial shock of it all I realized there was no point in dwelling on what I couldn't do. Besides my family and friends were upset enough already. So, I moved on trying to think of a way to keep some normality in my life. Now I come from a family where almost all the males have spent way to much playing video games. Even the topic of holiday conversations usually centers around games. So naturally I'd want keep playing video games if not for my love of them then for conversations sake.

The Christmas after my accident I got a Playstation. Using a typing stick I used on my computer and a arcade joystick controller I found a new way to play games. This worked great for a long time and I was able to for the most part play any game I wanted. Even into some of the PS2 age I was still buying 3-6 games a year. At some point something changed games were using the analogue sticks more and more. Now I can understand some games definitely needing them but I started seeing games which didn't even an option to change the control scheme. Even when the directional pad wasn't being used. Games I could count on started to betray me. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Final Fantasy, and even sports games (which I'm not to fond of anyway) were unplayable.

I went on n online crusade to find a way to play games again. I stumbled on AbleGamers one day. Now I'm going to be blunt as I always am. I didn't think much of it at first, in fact I made one post and didn't return for about a year. When I did return I was amazed at the progress that had been made. After reading through some of the articles and threads in the forum. I realized that not only could AbleGamers help disabled gamers in a warm welcoming way. It had the potential to make a change in the way developers thought of what I call the "disabled demographic" (Since I seems to be a lot about money.). Letting them know we are gamers and we want to play too. I emailed Mark and shared my feelings with him and that's what lead me to where I am now.

AbleGamers in my opinion reflects us as the disabled with the human side many neglect to see or don't care to. With soldiers coming home from Iraq with many different disabilities. It will be hard to ignore the fact that they deserve a chance to enjoy life as everyone else for their sacrifice and that includes gaming. I believe with the support of everyone on AbleGamers and others we can make things better.

Just a quick thought

Why do game developers make crappy games to already crappy movies and vice versa? It's not like transferring to a different media type make them any better. I guess the real question is what dumb-ass is buying the product?
